Re: I-19 East Frontage Road, Request for Paved Shoulders North of Canoa Exit

Mr. Beck, Mr. Lane and Mr. Sanders,

In conversations with Tucson and Green Valley area bicyclists and advocates, a number of folks have expressed safety concerns and have recommended paving the shoulder area adjacent to the east frontage road for approximately ½ mile north of the Canoa exit from I-19. We understand that this is a current concern which will be amplified by construction of a new hospital that will have this segment of road as its sole or primary access.

The Coalition of Arizona Bicyclists would like to echo the concerns of the groups and bicyclists that have previously raised this issue. We would like to register our support for construction of paved shoulders in this area as soon as possible, and certainly before construction and opening of the planned hospital.

Sincerely,

Robert A. Beane
President, Coalition of Arizona Bicyclists
